The very first Bookaro children literature festival commenced on 30th April 2016 at Jawahar Kala Kendra. For the 2 days this festival seemed determined to help children get closer to literature.

The speakers from all around the country and also the international Wendy Cooling were invited. I went there to cover the event and I was flabbergasted by the enthusiasm of the children. The festival was for the age group 4-12 but even the elders seemed very keen on attending any session they could.

The festival focused on doing the integrated learning of a child, developing his interest for books and stories and knowledge. The speakers had let the child inside them come alive to get the message across their audience. Everyone was determined to make the 2 days impactful in the lives of the child. Such programmes are much needed in a country where the reading habits among children are utterly poor. With a start like this hopefully the country will witness more such initiatives which will enlighten the children of the country with literature, art and the importance of knowledge.
